Frequently Asked Questions
Why not run 24/7 Trolley service?
MTS shares part of our rail line with heavy freight companies that operate in the late night and early morning hours. Federal regulations limit our ability to run service at the same time heavy freight is operating on our tracks.
Why does Route 910 not serve every Trolley stop?
The route will serve limited stops in order to help make the route time competitive and more effective for users.
Online and in-person surveys of community members helped determine which stops were most desired by riders expected to use the new route, as well as Trolley data from existing late-night and early morning Blue Line stops.
Why does Route 910 run every 30 minutes?
Historically, the last trips on the UC San Diego Blue Line have run on a 30-minute frequency. MTS mimicked that schedule for the launch of overnight service. MTS will closely be looking at ridership numbers throughout the first few months of use and assess if extra capacity is needed due to ridership levels.
What is the capacity on Route 910?
Route 910 will use 60-ft buses to run service, which seats approximately 60 people. With standing capacities, full load buses may fit up to 90 people.
Where do I board Route 910 stops?
Most Route 910 stops will be located inside existing transit centers, with the exception of stops near Harborside Trolley station and Barrio Logan Station.
Look for new Route 910 bus blade decals at transit centers served by Route 910, and MTS will also be adding special signage at the launch of the route to help mark pick-up locations more clearly.
How much does it cost to ride Route 910?
Route 910 costs the same as other standard MTS services - $2.50 for a one-way fare for Adult riders, or $1.25 for Senior, Disabled and Medicare riders.
Riders who pay with PRONTO or use contactless payments with a credit or debit card get free transfers for two hours, while riders using cash will have to pay again if transferring to another bus route or Trolley line.
Is the route safe to use?
Riders should save the number to security dispatch (619-595-4960) to text or call if assistance is ever needed. Security is available 24/7. Overnight:
- MTS will have a dedicated security team that will patrol all Route 910 stops during hours of operation.
- MDedicated security staff are assigned at 12th & Imperial Transit Center and the San Ysidro Transit Center during Trolley operation hours (4:30 a.m. to 1 a.m.)
- In addition to the Route 910 roaming security team, there is a mobile security team dedicated to Trolley stations in downtown San Diego, and another team to Blue Line stations in South County (from Barrio Logan to San Ysidro)
In addition to security personnel, MTS is in the process of adding solar lighting to Route 910 stops in Barrio Logan (all other stops are located within existing transit centers with lighting 24/7).
