Pay with PRONTO, or NEW Contactless Payment Options

Ready to get on board? You can ride most MTS bus and Trolley services for $2.50 one-way ($1.25 for senior, disabled and Medicare riders). Fares paid with a PRONTO card, the app or a contactless credit / debit card include free transfer for two hours. See more details below on each fare payment type.

PRONTO cards are available for purchase (one-time $2 fee) at ticket machines, the MTS Transit Store, NCTD customer service centers and retail outlets. Youth, Senior, Disabled and Medicare discounts require verification before reduced or free passes can be used.

You can pre-pay for a month pass (valid the first through the last day of the month), or use fare capping (earn as you go, never pay more than a Day Pass in a day, or a Month pass in a calendar month).

Paper tickets are available for purchase at rail station ticket machines (Trolley, SPRINTER and COASTER). Paper tickets are available for a one-way fare. They do not include free transfers to other rail lines or buses, or return trips.

People using a Youth, Senior, Disabled or Medicare reduced fare should travel with proof of eligibility.

Cash is accepted on buses (no change given) and ticket machines (up to $5 in change) for Adult ($2.50), and reduced fares ($1.25 for youth, senior, disabled and Medicare). There are no free transfers included with cash payments.
