One-Way Fares
One-way fares on PRONTO include unlimited transfers for two hours.
Note: Riders who use cash to purchase one-way fares will not be able to take advantage of the best fare offer with PRONTO accounts, nor the unlimited two-hour transfer policy, which requires a PRONTO card or mobile app account. One-way cash fares can be purchased on buses (exact change required), and at Trolley ticket machines (up to $5 in change given). Day Passes are no longer sold on buses. PRONTO Cards are not sold on the bus.

* Cash one-way fares allow a single ride on one Trolley line or one bus route (no transfers). One-way fares on PRONTO include unlimited transfers for two hours.
* Senior/Disabled/Medicare/Youth fares require valid identification
* Up to two children age 5 and under may ride free with a paying passenger on all MTS and NCTD routes
* Exact fare is required on buses
Fare Promotions
Family Weekends: On Saturdays and Sundays up to two children (age 12 and under) may ride free with a fare-paying adult (age 18 or older) on all MTS routes.
Children 5 and Under Ride Free: Up to two children age 5 and under may ride free with a paying passenger on all MTS and NCTD routes.
Holiday Friends Ride Free: On New Year's Day (observed), Memorial Day, Independence Day (4th of July), Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day, a friend may ride free with a fare-paying customer on all MTS routes (good for the entire day).
Youth 18 and Under Ride Free: All riders 18 & under will be able to ride MTS and North County Transit District (NCTD) services for FREE with a Youth PRONTO app account, or a Youth PRONTO card. Get more information here.
Pass Prices
If using best fare (fare capping) on PRONTO, a one-way cash fare will be deducted each time you ride (except within free two-hour window), up to the value of a Day Pass. Day Passes are not available for pre-purchase*.
Riders can still choose to pre-pay for a Month Pass (valid from the first through the last calendar day of the month).
If a PRONTO card is loaded with both cash value and a pre-paid pass, the pass will be used before the cash value is deducted.
*COASTER requires the pre-purchase of a Day or Month Pass.
