Y$2K Ride Transit - Win Prizes

This summer youth can Ride Transit & Win Prizes with the Youth Opportunity Pass! See below for key details on the Y$2K Summer Social Media Challenge (full contest rules). 

1. The Y$2K Summer Challenge Contest is open to youth 13 – 18 who live and/or go to school in San Diego County.
2. Youth can enter the Y$2K Summer Challenge by completing one of the four transit challenges listed below, and posting the video or photo carousel to their Instagram and/or TikTok accounts.
3. Entries must be posted between July 1 – 31, 2024, and will need to tag @sdmts and #y2ktransit in the post. The photos and/or video should include an MTS and/or NCTD vehicle; the PRONTO card, app or validator; and the points of interest from the challenge.
4. There will a total of ten (10) winners:
   • Four “At Large” Winners: The four posts with the most likes (one for each challenge) will be selected to have first choice of the prizes. Prizes will be selected in order of most likes overall. 
   • Of the remaining entries, MTS staff will select two additional entries from each challenge to go to a staff vote. The six (6) posts with the most votes will have selection of the remaining prizes.
5. Y$2K Challenges: Participants can complete one or all of the challenges, in any order!
   1. OOTD by Transit: Using transit, head to your favorite thrift shop, boutique or mall and build an outfit to slay the day. (No purchase necessary. Submissions with any nudity will be disqualified.)
   2. Share Your Community: How fast can you visit a library, park and other important landmark in your community via transit? Time stamp your post once you’ve visited all three, and race your friends for some added competition!
   3. Transit + Tacos: A perfect pair! Where’s the best taco shop in SD, or in your neighborhood? Take us there via transit and show us your order. Need some ideas? Check out this map of taco shops accessible by transit.
   4. Rider’s Choice: Show us how else you are using transit this summer, and what access to transit means to you. Maybe you’re working a summer job to save some cash; or visiting your family; exploring a new part of San Diego; or just meeting up with friends. (We’ve created a list of places to explore via transit below – what else would you add?)
6. Winners will be required to prove their eligibility for the contest, including age, and residency or school enrollment in San Diego County. Winners who fail to meet the necessary requirements will forfeit their prize. No prize may be claimed outside of San Diego County.

To get started riding MTS buses and Trolleys free, you will need the PRONTO app or a PRONTO card. You can download the app for free on your Apple or Android device, and set-up an account using an email address. PRONTO cards are available for free at select Y$2K Summer Challenge partner locations, or for $2 at Trolley ticket machines or retail partners. 

Once you have a PRONTO card or app account set-up, you need to get your card or account verified as a youth rider! All Youth must provide proof of their age before September 30, 2024 to keep riding free with the Youth Opportunity Pass (YOP). 

• You only need to prove your age once! When you do, your card is set as a Youth account until you turn 19. 
• You can provide proof that you are 18 or under online - all you need is an email address (to login to the website), something that shows your age (school ID or enrollment form, passport, driver's license, etc.) and a picture of yourself (like a selfie)
• Once you have those items ready to go, follow the step-by-step instructions here to verify your account. You should be approved within a few days (sometimes right away). 

You can also provide your proof of age in-person at the MTS Transit Store (1255 Imperial Avenue, San Diego CA 92101) Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Need immediate access to a Youth pass? Please call PRONTO Support at 619-595-5636. You will be given temporary approval until September 30, 2024. Then you will need to go through the above process to prove your age before September 30 if you want to keep riding free.
