The East County Bus Operations & Maintenance Facility is located in El Cajon and will help the region continue to reduce air pollution by expanding our ability to operate buses using Compressed Natural Gas (CNG). A new CNG fueling station on site will allow us to phase out the existing diesel-fueled buses and replace them with CNG-fueled buses.
CNG-fueled buses provide:
- A 53% reduction in NOx emissions
- An 85% decrease in particulate matter pollution
- An 89% decrease in CO emissions
The facility sits on 5.5 acres and serves more than 4 million passengers per year in East County’s urbanized area along Interstate 8 corridor, as well as rural, unincorporated areas in the county. It consists of fueling stations, maintenance and administration buildings, a bus wash, and parking for buses and staff.
