It is time for Día de Los Muertos in Old Town San Diego! This pre-Hispanic tradition originated in Mexico and pays tribute to loved-ones who have passed away. The holiday is celebrated with uniquely decorated ofrendas (altars), elaborate costumes and face-painting, and time spent with family and friends.

Special Events:

  • Movie Night: On November 1, watch a free screening of the beloved film The Book of Life under the stars. It’s a magical way to kick off the festivities!
  • Candlelit Procession: On November 2, join our annual candlelit procession, a beautiful tradition that illuminates the streets of Old Town as we honor those who have passed.
  • Catrina Contest: Embrace the iconic imagery of Día de Los Muertos by entering the Catrina Contest. Show off your creative attire for a chance to win prizes!
