Waterfront Park

The California Seaweed Festival is an in-person FREE family friendly event celebrating the seaweed diversity of California! The festival will showcase seaweed uses and applications in art, cooking, farming, science, sustainable technology, and conservation. At the all-day event, we will have booths, exhibits, workshops, galleries, and hands-on activities to immerse you and your family in seaweed fun and knowledge. We also encourage the use of masks when in a crowded and enclosed areas, following the California set guidelines.

Getting to the California Seaweed Festival is easy with MTS! Park and Ride at one of our transit stations and take the UC San Diego Blue Line or the Green Line to the County Center/Little Italy Station. The Trolley station gives you easy access to the festival just steps away.

Event Tips & Tricks

  • Youth Opportunity Pass: All riders 18 & under are eligible for free transit rides with a Youth PRONTO card or app account! Learn more.
  • Family Weekends: Every Saturday and Sunday, two children (12 and under) can ride Trolley for free with any paying adult (18 and over, no PRONTO card or app account necessary).
  • Festival-goers can purchase fares right on their phone by downloading the PRONTO mobile ticketing app in the App Store or on Google Play. Simply load money to your phone, then scan your app on a validator every time you ride to pay for a one-way fare (valid for free transfers for two hours).
  • PRONTO cards are also available for purchase or reload at all Trolley ticket machines or retail partner locations. Every passenger must have their own PRONTO card or app to ride.
  • We recommend loading at least enough money for a round-trip to save time post-game! You can also add more money to your account for future use (money added to PRONTO never expires).  Click here to learn more about PRONTO or view our Full Fare Chart.
