Rapid 227 is an electric Rapid route that connects Otay Mesa, Nestor, and Imperial Beach, with service to the UC San Diego Blue Line Trolley at the Iris Avenue Transit Center. With the expansion of pedestrian lanes at the Otay Mesa Port of Entry in 2024, cross-border commuters have a new quick and convenient option for access to coastal destinations, regional employment and activity centers in South County, downtown and central San Diego.
The new limited-stop bus service brings passengers from the border to the Trolley in just 15 minutes, and runs every 7.5 to 15 minutes throughout peak travel times, seven days a week.
It’s Electric (Literally)
Rapid 227 is powered by an electric bus fleet – the first of its kind in San Diego. These state-of-the-art vehicles built by New Flyer offer comfortable rides, large windows, high-back seats and fast service. They are quieter than gas-powered buses, and produce zero tailpipe emissions, which results in cleaner air for the communities Rapid 227 serves.
