MTS to offer extra Trolley service for sporting and music events
San Diego – Labor Day weekend is the last "hoorah” of summer, and busy crowds are expected throughout San Diego for large-scale sold-out special events all weekend long. The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will ramp up Trolley service for music and sports fans attending concerts and games. Additionally, the agency will operate on a Sunday service schedule on Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day.
Petco Park Events
Rocks Stars and Baseball Fans Unite! To kick off a fun-filled weekend, Def Leppard, Journey, and the Steve Miller Band are expecting a sell-out crowd as they hit the stage together at Petco Park Friday, Aug. 30. And to bookend the holiday weekend, the Padres are expecting busy crowds as they face the Detroit Tigers Labor Day, Sept. 2. Concert-goers and baseball fans are encouraged to skip busy traffic and high parking costs by taking transit to Petco Park.
All three Trolley Lines – UC San Diego Blue, Orange and Green – will provide additional service before and after the concert and game to and from the 12th & Imperial Transit Center, which is steps away from Petco Park. Snapdragon Stadium Events
Football and Fútbol Fans will get a double dose of sports action during the holiday weekend at Snapdragon Stadium. SDSU Aztecs Football will kick off its season Saturday, Aug. 31, when they face Texas A&M University-Commerce. The fun on the field continues with a soccer match Sunday, Sept. 1, featuring the San Diego Wave FC, which boasts two Olympic champions, vs. Angel City FC.
To accommodate the large crowds, MTS will increase Green Line Trolley service before and after games. Sports fans can find gameday service details on the MTS SDSU Aztec Football vs. Texas A&M - Commerce (or Snapdragon Stadium) and the Wave vs. Angel City webpages.
Additionally, die-hard Aztecs fans can save big by getting the Aztecs All-Season Pass, which features a discounted transit pass for $20 for all six home games.
Parking Alternatives
Fans can avoid high parking costs by using MTS’ free park & ride lots throughout the Trolley system. View the full list of Park & Ride lots on the MTS website. The most convenient locations are:

Labor Day Service
On Monday, Sept. 2 (Labor Day), MTS’s Vintage Trolley will operate on the Silver Line. The very first iconic red San Diego Trolley, the 1001 U2, will operate on a downtown loop. The Silver Line Vintage Trolley departs from the 12th & Imperial Transit Center every hour, starting at 9:07 a.m. with its last trip departing at 5:07 p.m. Passengers can also board at any of the downtown stops serviced on this route (see map here). It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the downtown loop.
MTS will also operate on a Sunday service schedule on Labor Day for bus routes and Trolley lines. MTS Information and Trip Planning assistance will be open during modified hours, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The Transit Store, PRONTO Support Center and Customer Service will be closed.
On Saturday and Sunday, MTS’ Family Weekends promotion will be taking place allowing two kids 12 and under to ride free with each paying adult on all MTS services. MTS will also have its Friends Ride Free holiday promotion in effect on Monday, Sept. 2, for Labor Day. Every fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free. Youth ride free with a Youth PRONTO card/account through the Youth Opportunity Pass Program.
