San Diego – Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and busy crowds are expected throughout San Diego. For Memorial Day weekend, the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) will ramp up Trolley service for fans attending San Diego Padres games and operate on a reduced holiday service schedule on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.
During the weekend, the Padres are expecting sell-out games against the New York Yankees and the Miami Marlins. Baseball fans are encouraged to skip busy traffic and high parking costs by taking transit to Petco Park. To accommodate the large crowds, MTS will increase Trolley service before and after games. All three Trolley lines – UC San Diego Blue, Orange and Green – provide direct service to Petco Park, dropping fans off in the heart of the action. All the extra service details can be found on the MTS Padres vs. Yankees webpage.
Fans can avoid high gameday parking costs around the stadium by using MTS’ free park & ride lots throughout the Trolley system. View the full list of Park & Ride lots on the MTS website. The most convenient locations are:
- Old Town Transit Center (Blue and Green Line, 400+ free parking spots)
- Grossmont Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 220 free parking spots)
- El Cajon Transit Center (Green and Orange Line, 400+ free parking spots)
- Amaya Drive (Green and Orange Line, 236 free parking spots)
- Spring Street (Orange Line, 235 free parking spots)
- E Street (Blue Line South, 265 free parking spots)

On Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day), MTS’s Vintage Trolley will operate on the Silver Line. The very first iconic red San Diego Trolley, the 1001 U2, will operate on a downtown loop. The Silver Line Vintage Trolley departs from the 12th & Imperial transit Center every hour, starting at 9:07 a.m. with its last trip departing at 2:07 p.m. Passengers can also board at any of the downtown stops serviced on this route (see map here). It takes approximately 30 minutes to complete the downtown loop.
MTS will also operate on a Sunday service schedule on Memorial Day for bus routes and Trolley lines. MTS Information and Trip Planning assistance will be open during modified hours, from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. The Transit Store, PRONTO Support Center and Customer Service will be closed.
MTS will have its Friends Ride Free holiday promotion in effect. Every fare-paying adult passenger can bring one guest on board for free.
