MTS Security is available 24/7 by text or phone. If you see something suspicious, contact security or notify a bus or Trolley operator.

Call or Text 619.595.4960

We want you to have a safe and secure ride. Our security team's top priority is keeping you, our community, and our employees safe.

MTS passenger safety measures include:

  • High staffing levels and visibility: We want passengers to be able to see our officers frequently during trips. There are more than 200 security officers that patrol all three Trolley lines and on buses. Code Compliance Inspectors wear yellow uniforms, and the contracted security team wears light blue uniforms. Please talk to a security officer if you have general transit system questions or see something concerning.
  • 24/7 Security Hotline: Passengers can contact the 24/7 security hotline via call or text at 619-595-4960. The hotline accepts photos and videos too if you have the ability to share. Providing as much information as possible is helpful to our security team, such as the train number, direction, line and any other descriptions of the situation that can help our responding security team.
  • Fast response times: We have security team members stationed at some of our busiest transit centers – like San Ysidro, 12th Street & Imperial Transit Center, and Old Town – and we’re operating more security outposts to increase visibility and improve response times.
  • Security cameras: Cameras are installed on all MTS bus and Trolley vehicles, at all Trolley stations, and officers are issued body worn cameras for use in the field. Our dispatch team has access to station security cameras and can use them to actively monitor a developing incident and to document and investigate crimes and other incidents on MTS properties. A detailed summary of our video systems can be found here.
  • You: Our passengers are essential to keeping a secure transit system, which is why we urge you to contact security if you witness something suspicious.
  • Ongoing safety education: As part of the Operation Life Saver program, MTS security officers are available to give presentations to your school class, organization, or community club about rider safety and best practices while riding transit. To request a presentation email Sgt. Miguel Gonzalez at Miguel.Gonzalez@sdmts.com
