Get Out of Class and Get on Board!
The Classroom Day Pass program is a great way for students and youth groups from elementary to high school age to learn how to use public transit while seeing fun and educational destinations in San Diego.
What are the Classroom Day Passes special discounted rates?
$1.50 per person on all regularly scheduled Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) routes: Buses, Trolleys and the SPRINTER
$3.00 per person for the COASTER
$2.00 per person for a round trip on the Coronado/San Diego Bay Ferry (or) $1.00 per person on a one-way trip (Combine the Ferry with the Bus or Trolley and add $1.50 (or) the COASTER for $3.00 per person.)
Who can ride at the special Classroom Day Pass rate?
A minimum group size of 12 qualifies for our Classroom Day Pass group rate. Students elementary to high school are eligible to ride at the special rate, along with a limited number of chaperones.
What is the chaperone policy?
One chaperone for every five students.* Chaperones must be at least 19 years old.
*Up to the discretion of the Day Pass Program.
Can any size group use a Classroom Day Pass?
A minimum of 12 people qualifies for the Classroom Day Pass group rate. If you are planning to travel with a larger group, we may have to place you on more than one bus or Trolley. If you are planning to travel on the Coaster, the maximum group size is 135. If you are planning to travel using the NCTD system, please be advised that buses in the system may not be able to accommodate large groups due to variations in bus size on routes.
Will everyone have a seat?
Seating is on a first-come, first serve-basis. During busy times of the year, some riders may have to stand for part of or the entire trip.
Additional restrictions may apply. Routes and prices subject to change. When should I make a reservation?
Make your reservation at least 10 business days before your trip. For trips in May or June allow additional time.
How do I make a reservation?
Complete and submit the on-line form, print the form, email or call us. The Coordinator will e-mail or call back within two business days. Calls are returned Monday through Friday, 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. Only confirmed trips are eligible for the Classroom Day Pass discounted fare.

How do I pay for my passes?
Pay for passes with a check or money order payable to MTS. Cash, credit cards or purchase orders are not accepted.
Trips not confirmed by the Coordinator are not eligible for the Classroom Day Pass fare.
How do I receive my passes?
Once the trip has been confirmed by the Coordinator, mail a copy of the request form with a check or money order payable to MTS to the address below:

Due to scheduling restrictions, passes not picked up at least two (2) days prior to your trip date are subject to cancelation.
Recieve passes by mail:
Passes can be sent via certificated mail.
What are the changes, cancellations and refund policies?
Please give us 48 hours notice of cancellation so we can reschedule your trip. There are no refunds on Classroom Day Passes. Should you need to cancel your trip, we will be happy to give you a credit for a future trip. Please call (619) 233-9558 and leave a message.
To receive a credit the pass must be returned to our office at least one day before the travel date (no "post mark" dates apply). Please hand-deliver to: MTS Day Pass Coordinator, 100 16th St, San Diego CA 92101 OR at North County Transit District, 810 Mission Avenue Oceanside, 92054, Receptionist Desk.
If you wish to reschedule your trip because of bad weather, please call the Coordinator and leave a message prior to the start of your trip.

COASTER
Special round trip fare on selected trains only of $3.00 per person. The COASTER is a commuter train and does not operate regular hours during the week. (See schedule for times - click here). Additional fare required for transfer to MTS bus and Trolley. Travel during non-peak hours Monday through Friday. Maximum of 135 student and adults per group on a scheduled train. Not all trains are available at the group rate.

CORONADO/SAN DIEGO BAY FERRY with Flagship Cruises and Events
Take a field trip across the San Diego Bay on the ferry with Flagship Cruises and Events. Combine the ferry outing with bus or Trolley and add $1.50 per person.
The ferry is $1.00 per person for a one-way trip, and $2.00 per person for a round trip.
